necklace for awhile:
I just couldn't pass this one up. I have been drooling over this J. Crew
necklace for awhile:
I love this bubble necklace, specifically in turquoise and citrus lime. But, I don't have any interest in shelling out $150 for one. Here is the alternative I found:
I found this necklace on Etsy for $49.00 plus $4.95 shipping. So, still a little bit more pricey then what I usually spend on faux jewelry, but I have been loving this look for so long, I think I am going to get one. Any suggestions on which color?
I just bought a bunch of new shorts for the summer and I thought I would share since I really like them. Both types are from Old Navy.
Perfect Khaki Shorts (3 1/2")
I bought two pairs of these last year and wore them like crazy. They definitely lasted the summer even with the amount of times that I washed them.
Cuffed Linen Blend Shorts (3")
I love how light these linen blend shorts are. They are so comfortable and they have a nice structure to them.
You can't beat the price. They are so similar to shorts that I saw at Gap and J Crew, but more than half the price!
We had a little issue with a wild animal eating part of our outdoor
So, we have been on the hunt for a new set. And they are pretty pricey. No joke. I thought I would share some of my favorites and least expensive ones in case some of you are in the market too.
La-Z-Boy 4 Pc Morgan Seating Set
We are specifically looking for a casual seating set with dark colors for the frame and the cushions (so the dogs don't destroy it). I found that Kmart on-line had the best and cheapest selection plus you get no interest if you open up a Sears card and free delivery if you spend over $249. We didn't go with this specific set, but it was a similar color and also by La-Z-Boy. It was a little bit pricier, but we couldn't pass up those deals to get a nicer set.
Wicker Deep Seating Sectional
We definitely don't have space for a sectional, but I think they are so cute for outdoor seating. However, they are always soooo expensive, so I thought I would share this one that I came across.
Target Home 3 Piece Bar Height Bistro Set
I love smaller, bar height sets for little balconies and small spaces. I have one from my first house that we still use now. I also love how simple and neutral this set is so you can make it work for your space with any color cushions or centerpiece that you want!
Seeing as the weather has been a bit cooler and kind of dreary the past couple of days, my soup cravings have not totally gone away. I wanted to make a sweet potato soup recipe out of what I had in my kitchen. I based my soup off of this recipe.
Ingredients (makes 4 servings):
1.5 lb sweet potatoes
1/2 cup water (reserved from boiling the sweet potatoes)
1 tbsp butter
1/2 cup diced white onion
2 medium celery stalks, diced
1 shake celery salt
3 cloves garlic, minced
few grinds fresh black pepper
1 cup milk-whatever kind you drink
2 tsp flour
Salt to taste
1. Peel and dice the sweet potatoes and place in a pot of boiling water. Cook until potatoes are tender (can easily pierce with a fork). Drain potatoes from water. Make sure to reserve 1/2 cup of water.
2. Meanwhile, heat butter in a medium pan until melted. Add onion, celery, and garlic and saute about 3 to 5 minutes until the onion and celery start to soften. Season with celery salt and pepper. Add to the drained potatoes in the pot.
3. Mix milk and flour together. Add this to the potato mixture and mix everything together.
4. Use an immersion blender (or place cooled mixture in a regular blender) and purify to the consistency that you like. I prefer mine super smooth, but you can leave chunks if you want.
If you like sweet potatoes, you will like this. Since I didn't add any extra crazy ingredients, it tastes just like creamy sweet potato goodness. I also like it with a little sour cream or greek yogurt on top.
I am going to stray from my usual-type post to give a little weekend recap in pictures. It was super busy mostly due to the fact that Mr. Benjamin had his 6 months old boy surgery (ouch!) and he handled it exceptionally poor. As in removing his own stitches, falling down the stairs, being a huge baby kind of poor. So, in Cheap & Chic fashion, we purchased a lovely new necklace for him. It's going to be all the rage this summer.
He learned how to smile with his eyes from Tyra-he's good isn't he? Yup, so anyways, he ran into everything with this baby on. He also had a panic attack on the way home from the vet and he did some kind of cirque du soleil move where he launched himself into the front seat thus shifting the car into neutral and erasing all the channel presets. But that's neither here nor there. By the end of the afternoon both me and my conehead dog deserved a beer. Mostly me I suppose, but he snuck a sip...(please do not contact the ASPCA, no dogs were hurt in this post...and he loves beer, so it's all good).
Then the hubs and I went out with some friends for a little bday celebration. Here are the lovely ladies...and then me too.
It was a very fun night. After which I promptly passed out on the couch. But apparently Benny left me a toy to play with in case I woke up early. What a sweet boy. P.S. this is a legit photo (I was out. Cold.). I live a super fabulous life.
Saturday there was a lot more of this going on...
Of course, a little hockey action (clearly this pic was taken in the first period when happiness still existed in life).
Sunday I went to a great charity event with my MIL and friends. Naturally, I didn't take a single photo (and I actually looked semi-decent compared to the rest of these photos-I swear). Worst blogger ever. It was also gross and pouring rain all day, so I was able to get some solid cuddle time in.
With Benny of course, not the hubby.
He just loves to cuddle. Can't you tell by his body language?
Just kidding. He's a 65 pound cuddlebug. Don't you just love the pure exhaustion on our faces? I do. It's hard doing mixed martial arts with a great dane mix.
So that's about it. Somewhat boring and super exhausting. And full of injuries from that darn cone (mostly I was injured not so much Benny). I hope you all had a great weekend and I hope this made you laugh at least a little! Normal posting will resume tomorrow!
After 5 night shifts in a row, which I never ever ever ever do, I decided to take my zombie-like attitude out for some retail therapy. Here are my 2 favorite buys of the day!
Merona Blue Envelope Clutch
$19.99 in stores only at Target
Chinese Laundry Dasher Wedge Pump
On clearance for $35 at my local DSW
My favorite boots that I bought a while back from Old Navy. They are so comfortable and easy to pair with a lot of different looks!
P.S. I am seriously cheesin' in this pic, I blame it on the photographer making me laugh. Try not to look directly at my face.
I am a huge fan of having fun and unique items for my table settings when we have people over our home. The simplest items can make a simple table super cute. Crate and Barrell has new white ceramic serving dishes that I am absolutely in love with right now.
Mini Takeout Box $2.95
Target also has a great selection of white stoneware serving pieces.
These items are fairly inexpensive (unless you buy all of them at once like I want to) and they will really make a noticeable difference to any table!
